In most countries, the price of nonprofit status is depoliticisation. But should it be that way? Plus, Anti-trans meanies. And Pope Francis: the least worst pope ever.
It’s exactly what I’m wondering, Sarah. If trusts will find them, I think it could be. Or other things - I noticed that Good Law Project is a CIO for example. All of which depends on whether funders have an appetite for supporting disruption - or whether you need their help….
I work with quiteca few CICs & I think they do seem freer to fobthings in a way that suits them but a proportion do seem to then change to charitable status (CIO generally) for funding / gift aid reasons.
That’s what I’ve seen too. Especially when buildings and space are involved - for the business rates. If the funding issue could be changed, I think it would still be worth it. You’d just have to recognise that it’s more expensive to change the world than just to deliver services…. 😬 But we’re all also trying to make a living and survive…
Nb another great article - thank you
Thanks!
Interested in how you see CICs, and whether you think they are a way around the 'charity' issues?
